Participation of Prof. Triantafyllidis’ group in Carbon 2022 Conference, 5-8 July 2022

Last week, Prof. Triantafyllidis Lab participated in the Carbon 2022 conference which was hosted by the British Carbon Group and held from 3-8 July 2022 in London.

Dr. Dimitrios Giannakoudakis and PhD candidate Eleni Salonikidou participated in the conference with one oral and two poster presentations. The focus of the posters was on the utilization of functionalized commercial activated nanoporous carbons as well as biomass derived ones for the ultra-deep desulfurization of model and real diesel fuels at ambient conditions. The works were co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund of the European Union and Greek national funds through the Operational Program Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation (EPAnEK 2014-2020), under the Action “RESEARCH–CREATE–INNOVATE Β’ CALL” (Project: DESULFUR, code: Τ2ΕΔΚ-01976).

Dr. Dimitrios Giannakoudakis received the Royal Society of Chemistry AWARD for the best poster presentation for the work “Biomass-derived activated carbons for the desulfurization of model fuels”.

Eleni Salonikidou presented a poster containing part of her PhD work, entitled “Metal-free activated carbons for the deep desulfurization of model and real diesel fuel”.

In addition, Dr Dimitrios Giannakoudakis presented also the latest results of the group within the field of photocatalytic biomass valorization with title “Designing novel nanocomposites of titanate nanotubes with graphite oxide derivatives: elevating the photocatalytic selective oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to 2,5-diformylfuran”.

We would like to thank the organizing committee for the excellent conference, that gave us the change to discuss about our science and results with experts on nanoporous matierials from all over the world and we are looking forward to the next Carbon 2023 Conference in Mexico!
