DEVELOPMENT OF INNOVATIVE NANOCELLULOSE-REINFORCED COMPOSITE WOOD PRODUCTS WITH ADVANCED HYDROPHOBIC AND ANTIMICROBIAL PROPERTIES
(CELL4GLUE)
PROJECT CODE: Τ6ΥΒΠ-00341
Project website: Cell4Glue
The project is implemented under the «Special Actions “Aquaculture” – “Industrial Materials” – “Open Innovation In Culture“» which are co‐financed by the European Regional Development Fund of the European Union and Greek national funds through the Operational Program Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation (EPAnEK 2014-2020) (project code: Τ6ΥΒΠ-00341)
Scope of the project
Cell4Glue project focuses on the development of novel wood composites with enhanced hydrophobic and antibacterial features by combining the exceptional properties of nanocellulose and the novel technique of thermal nanoimprint lithography (NIL). The project aims to synthesize green nanocomposite resins with biomass deriving nanocellulose and to use them as wood adhesives for the production of particle boards. The latter will be surface modified with NIL, aiming at the implementation of micro/nano structures that will provide them with hydrophobic and antimicrobial properties, setting groundwork to produce novel, sustainable, nanoscale enhanced materials.
